How the maths works
The calculator starts from your annual licence spend. If you enter support hours per month, it multiplies those hours by twelve and by your loaded hourly rate to estimate an annual labour cost, then adds that to the licence spend to get a total annual cost. Total annual cost divided by the number of endpoints gives cost per endpoint per year; dividing that by twelve gives the monthly figure. Total annual cost divided by the number of operator seats gives cost per operator per year. Leaving support hours at zero gives a pure licence-only cost per endpoint.
This is intentionally a simple linear model. It does not account for banded or tiered pricing that changes per unit as you cross thresholds — for that, use the licence comparison calculator, which is built specifically to model tiered pricing against a flat rate.
Worked example
An IT team supports 250 endpoints with six operator seats. Their remote support and RMM tool costs £9,000 a year, and the team spends roughly 40 hours a month on remote sessions, at a loaded technician cost of £35 an hour.

Frequently asked questions
- What counts as an endpoint?
- Any device your team can remotely support or monitor: a laptop, desktop, server, kiosk or point-of-sale terminal. Count every managed device in your fleet, not just the ones with an open ticket right now.
- Should I include support hours in the cost per endpoint?
- Yes if you want a fully loaded figure. This calculator turns support hours into a cost using a standard loaded hourly rate assumption, then folds it into the annual spend before dividing by endpoints. Leave the field at zero if you only want licence cost per endpoint.
- Why does the calculator also show cost per operator?
- Licence spend is usually justified two ways: cost per device supported, and cost per operator seat. A tool with a low per-endpoint cost but very few usable seats can still be a poor deal for a growing team, so both figures matter.
- Is this the same as total cost of ownership?
- No. Total cost of ownership also includes hardware depreciation, connectivity, training and downtime. This calculator isolates the remote support and RMM licence line so you can compare that spend on its own.
- Does a higher endpoint count always lower the cost per endpoint?
- Only if your licence spend does not scale linearly with endpoints, which is common with fixed-price or banded pricing. Re-run the calculator at your projected endpoint count to see whether growth makes the tool cheaper or more expensive per device.
